Upon first meeting Miss Sutherland, I noticed she was extremely distressed. It struck me as strange that she was so adamant about waiting for Hosmer to contact her when she hardly knows him. Her mother Tracey seems to disagree with Mary’s blind devotion to Mr. Angel. From what Mary tells me, she seems to be quite unsure about the whole situation. Her best friend, Barb Dwyer, also seemed similarly skeptical. The only person that really supported her in holding out hope for Hosmer was her stepfather James Windybank. This also struck me as curious because she mentioned that he has made it clear to her before that he believes ‘a woman should be happy in her own family circle’.

I have only briefly looked over the information she has supplied us. Her relationship with Mr. Angel appears to be very distant. They have never met in person before, although she claims that Hosmer has seen her multiple times. She has put a lot of trust into this man that she has never met. As for Mr. Angel, perhaps he has different intentions. After all, Miss Sutherland does have a fair amount of inheritance from the death of her uncle, Alfred Sutherland.
